Tiebreaks
Chess Education Foundation will divide this year’s scholarship up into 3 prices:
1st place $2,500
2nd place $1,500
3rd place $1,000
Here is our tiebreak process:
2-Way Tie
1. Blitz Off
2. Armageddon Blitz Off
The first winner in a G/5 blitz off will win a scholarship. If the players draw 2 times in the blitz off games we then proceed to an Armageddon Blitz Off which means the player with the White pieces gets 5 minutes and the player with the Black pieces gets 3 minutes and draw odds (this means if the game is a draw, they win).
3+ Way Tie
The tiebreaks we use in case of a 3-way tie is to determine 2 players for a blitz off so that chess may decide the scholarship winner.
- Modified Median
- Solkoff
- Cumulative
- Cumulative of Opposition
Tiebreaks are subject to change if the 7th event has larger than expected participation levels.
Prize Distribution
We will not write checks to the parents or winner. Instead, we will write the check to the chosen institution when the time comes.
